Victory in the Supreme Court for Offshore Oil Workers Compensation Rights
January 11, 2012 – The Law Offices of Charles D. Naylor is proud to announce that today, the United States Supreme Court issued a unanimous decision (Pacific Operators Offshore L.L.P. v. Valladolid) providing for fair workers compensation benefits to offshore oil workers, regardless of where the accident causing their injury or death occurs.
U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit Upholds Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act; May Now Go to U.S. Supreme Court
February 17, 2011 – Just one week after oral arguments were presented, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit issued its decision in California United Terminals vs. Towne. The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals denied the petition for the case to be reviewed, thus holding employers responsible for the injured party’s litigation costs associated with successful prosecution of legitimate workers compensation claims.
CARNIVAL SPLENDOR fire leaves cruise ship dead in the water and 4,500 passengers and crew stranded
November 11, 2010 - An engine room fire on the two year old mega cruise ship CARNIVAL SPLENDOR left the ship dead in the water with limited power Monday morning. Passengers reported feeling a "large jolt and a shudder" run through the ship followed by the appearance of brown smoke and a loss of power. With no power, no air conditioning and no running water the ship finally reached safety in San Diego today while cruise line officials prepare to fend off claims from passengers and crew.
$24 Million Settlement Reached with Chrysler Corp. for San Pedro Family
September 24, 2009 - The U.S Bankruptcy Court today Carapproved a $24 million settlement with Chrysler Corporation for the wrongful death of San Pedro longshoreman Richard Mraz. The $24 million settlement represents one of the largest ever for the wrongful death of a longshore worker.
