Common Injuries and Compensation

Scheduled and Non-Scheduled Injuries and Compensation

If you suffered an injury to a body part that is listed under a schedule of disabilities under the Act, the Act provides for compensation based on the extent of the disability to the injured body part. For example, injuries to hands, feet, legs and arms are under the Act’s schedule of disabilities.

If you suffered an injury to a non scheduled body part - and a spinal injury is the most common type - the Act provides for another method of determining the amount of benefits you are entitled to. Generally, benefits will be based on how your permanent injuries affect your ability to earn income in the future.

For either a scheduled or non-scheduled injury, if permanent disabilities render you totally unable to work in any capacity, you would generally be entitled to total disability benefits.
